The Centre for Indigenous Support and Community Engagement is proud to offer culturally centered individual counseling to students who are First Nation, M\u00e9tis, or Inuk. Through this service, Indigenous students can access confidential, individual sessions to support them with personal, mental health, or academic challenges.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

What to Expect<\/h3>\n

During your first session, you will be asked to fill out some forms providing basic information about yourself and will have confidentiality policies explained to you. Then you will spend some time getting to know your counselor and identifying some of the challenges you may be experiencing. This is an opportunity for you to share why you have decided to seek support and discuss what your goals are in attending counseling.<\/span><\/p>\n

Counseling can look like many different things; from traditional talk therapy, art activities, practicing skill building, participating in ceremonies, or discussing traditional teachings. You and your counselor will discuss options that will work best for your particular situation.<\/p>\n

Both of our Indigenous Counsellors are Registered Psychotherapists and have training in a variety of psychological theories. They work from a trauma-informed lens incorporating Western and traditional forms of therapy. Our counselors have experience helping students with concerns such as (but not limited to) anxiety, depression, academic\/personal stress, relationship problems, sexual violence, adjustment to university, living away from home, and identity issues.<\/p>\n
