The Office of the Associate Vice-President (Indigenous Teaching, Learning and Research) and the Centre for Indigenous Support and Community Engagement invite you to attend Understanding and Honouring Indigenous Forms of Identity and Belonging Town Halls<\/em><\/strong>. These sessions will provide historical context on issues related to Indigenous identity and outline how the University\u2019s new policies aim to address these challenges.<\/p>\n

Carleton University has adopted two policies to verify Indigenous identity for employment competitions, academic programs and awards, grants, bursaries and scholarships that are limited to Indigenous candidates.<\/p>\n

  1. The Hiring Policy for Positions Limited to Indigenous (First Nation, Inuit and M\u00e9tis) Candidates<\/a> aims to protect positions intended to bring the richness of Indigenous lived experience and knowledge into Carleton\u2019s classrooms.<\/li>\n
  2. The Admissions and Awards Limited to Indigenous (First Nation, M\u00e9tis and Inuit) Candidates Policy<\/a> outlines a process to verify the Indigenous identity of applicants who apply to Indigenous-specific program seats or awards, grants, bursaries, and scholarships in order to ensure there is a clearly defined way to address potential Indigenous identity fraud.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
