The Library, in partnership with the Office of the Associate Vice-President Indigenous Teaching, Learning and Research, presents Off the Page, Into Real Life: A Sky Woman Event <\/strong><\/em>on Friday, March 7. This special event will feature two engaging sessions exploring Indigenous storytelling and artistry.<\/p>\n

Morning Session: A Retelling of Sky Woman’s Story<\/h2>\n

9 a.m. to noon
\nMacOdrum Library, Room 252<\/p>\n

Join <\/span>Dr. <\/span>Kahente<\/span> Horn-<\/span>Mille<\/span>r<\/span>, Associate Vice-President, Indigenous Teaching, Learning and Research <\/span>as she <\/span>retells the story of Sky Woman <\/span>from a first-person perspective<\/span>. <\/span>Through this<\/span> rematriate<\/span>d<\/span> account of Sky Woman\u2019s fall to earth, Dr. Horn-Miller offers <\/span>a fresh <\/span>perspective<\/span> of Sky Woman\u2019s origin while<\/span> challenging other<\/span> renditions of<\/span> the <\/span>stor<\/span>y<\/span>. This <\/span>session is open to<\/span> the Carleton community and requires advance registration. <\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Afternoon Session: Beading the Story<\/h2>\n

1 to 4:30 p.m.
\nMacOdrum Library Book Arts Lab<\/p>\n

In the afternoon, participate in an immersive beading experience and delve into the intricate world of Indigenous beading. Participants will have the opportunity to bead onto decorated printed sheets or bring their own work or books to embellish. Explore experimenting with a variety of colors, textures and techniques in a hands-on creative environment. No prior experience is needed\u2014just bring your enthusiasm! All materials will be provided. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
