The Centre for Indigenous Initiatives is proud to offer culturally centered individual counselling to students who self-identify as First Nation, Metis or Inuk. Through this service, Indigenous students can access confidential, individual sessions for support with personal, mental health or academic challenges.<\/p>\n

What to Expect<\/h3>\n

During your first session you will be asked to fill out some forms providing basic information about yourself and will have confidentiality policies explained to you. Then you will spend some time getting to know your counsellor and identifying some of the challenges you may be experiencing. This is an opportunity for you to share why you have decided to seek support and discuss what your goals are in attending counseling.<\/p>\n

Counselling can look like many different things; from traditional talk therapy, art activities, practicing skill building, participating in ceremony or discussing traditional teachings. You and your counsellor will discuss options that will work best for your particular situation.<\/p>\n

Individual sessions are offer 2.5 days a week and same day\/walk-in appointments are available Wednesday mornings and Thursday afternoons, on a first come first serve basis. Students and Carleton staff can make referrals by calling or emailing the contact below.<\/p>\n
