The Mindtrust Leadership Development Program (MLDP) has been delivered successfully since 2005 in partnership with Carleton University, University of Ottawa and Algonquin College (since 2015). MLDP is responding to the need to develop next generation leaders and is intended for impact-driven, and mature students with an interest in the future of leadership. This program features seven interactive sessions facilitated by leadership development experts and incorporates community leaders to share experiences and wisdom while making the program practical and real.
During the pandemic with restrictions on group meetings, MLDP was re-designed for either a fully on-line or hybrid delivery to meet the immediate community needs in the current environment.
Program Overview
MLDP 2023 will include a hybrid (on-line and in-person) delivery while focussing on the unique aspects of the program including:
- A variety of learning activities about important leadership topics while providing a solid base for the participants to undertake their own leadership journey,
- Interactive teaching approaches to allow maximum participation and attention,
- Interaction with Mindtrust leaders to share their knowledge, experience and wisdom, and
- Working with students from other institutions to develop long-term relationships.
The on-line sessions are optimized for delivery with a mix of pre-work/readings, short intro video for each topic and a 2-hour facilitated session. Each topic is divided into two sections as follows:
- Topic lecture (45 to 60 minutes in length) will be pre-recorded and available to the participants in advance of the real-time session. This lecture will be available for self-serve by the participants, along with any additional reading material, links to third-party videos and access to online assessments and surveys.
- Real-time interactive session (approximately two-hours in length) conducted with Zoom utilizing break-out rooms, real-time chat, real-time polling and shared white board capability. This includes two or three exercises using the break-out rooms with a Mindtrust leader assigned to each group to participate, observe or provide guidance. Each session will include a 10 to 15-minute Q&A session with Mindtrust leaders.
The session facilitator will manage the content delivery and a Mindtrust moderator will manage the Zoom controls including recording of session. The final Leadership in Action, “bringing everything together”, session will be in-person (if possible) and includes a Q&A session with the Mindtrust leaders. Graduation will be acknowledged using Credly Acclaim badges, which can be included on each participant’s LinkedIn profile and personal resume.
