DESCRIPTION:Canada is facing its most significant economic threat in 30 years.  On Saturday, February 1, U.S. President Donald Trump imposed a 10% tariff on Canadian energy products and a 25% tariff on all other goods. These tariffs will take effect on Tuesday, February 4. In response, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced retaliatory tariffs of 25% on $155 billion of U.S. imports—$30 billion of which will take effect on February 4, with the remaining $125 billion following in 21 days.



These measures will disrupt supply chains, increase costs for manufacturers and consumers, cause job losses, slow economic growth, and create long-term uncertainty. Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will be hit the hardest.



To take action, the TIM team is launching the "Up Our Game Canada: Confront U.S. Tariffs" program at TIM@Kanata on Friday, February 21.



This initiative will provide Canadian SMEs with practical strategies through professional development modules, including:




Short-term cost reduction – Immediate measures to offset tariff impacts



Market diversification – Expanding beyond U.S. dependence



Long-term adjustments – Investment-driven, sustainable solutions



Collaboration and advocacy – Collective action to influence trade policies



Value-added and differentiation – Enhancing product appeal to maintain competitiveness




Each module includes a video, transcript, slide deck, workbook, and workshop, leveraging AI tools for effective active learning.



Our goal is to make this program available nationwide by partnering with chambers of commerce, economic development organizations, colleges, and universities across Canada—ensuring SMEs from coast to coast to coast have access to the training resources they need.
