Climate change<\/strong> is the crisis of our lifetimes. Solving it\u2014and getting the solutions right<\/em>\u2014is an unparalleled opportunity for our community to thrive and businesses to prosper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Affordable housing <\/strong>is the crisis of the moment. Solving it\u2014while leaving no one behind<\/em>\u2014is a huge opportunity to innovate, collaborate, and build community cohesion and trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What if the quickest, best way to solve both of these tough challenges is to solve them together?<\/em><\/strong>
\nON OCTOBER 9 AT BAYVIEW YARDS, WE\u2019RE GOING TO FIND OUT.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ottawa Climate Action Fund (OCAF) is hosting the Ottawa Climate-Economy Opportunities Summit as a catalyst for the ambitious, achievable initiatives<\/em><\/strong> that will help our community solve housing supply and affordability through a climate lens<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through the spring and summer, OCAF convened three sector sounding boards on buildings & energy, infill & neighbourhoods, <\/em>and technology & entrepreneurship<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With their help, we\u2019ve come up with five action opportunities<\/em><\/strong> that will help Ottawa move quickly <\/em><\/strong>and decisively on decarbonization, local resilience, and housing supply and affordability, at the scale we need to make a difference.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Public Land for New Housing:<\/strong>\u00a0Identifying parcels of surplus land that can be deployed quickly to deliver more affordable, low-carbon\/net-zero new housing<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Reno-Protection:<\/strong>\u00a0Public-private collaboration to acquire older apartment buildings for deep energy retrofits while permanently protecting their affordability<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Gentle Density Accelerator:<\/strong>\u00a0Discovering how to house more people on under-utilized residential lots (secondary suites, coach\/ADUs, duplexes, multiplexes…) while tackling neighbourhoods\u2019 carbon footprint<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. \u200bEnergy Resilience Districts:<\/strong>\u00a0Looking beyond the building at how technology can deliver deep energy efficiency, onsite renewable power, energy storage, and district energy solutions in new developments<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Green Pipeline:<\/strong>\u00a0Bringing together the investment opportunities (companies, projects), investors, finance mechanisms, and matchmaking services to accelerate the delivery of low-carbon, more affordable housing supply<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    We know we can only get this done with a whole-of-community approach, with businesses, governments and public agencies, and community groups all doing their part. By the end of this event, we\u2019ll have a clear picture of how to turn a creative, complex discussion into action and results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
