We appreciate that the ever-changing travel landscape can make planning for your arrival in Canada challenging and uncertain. Carleton University is aware of the announcement from the Government of Canada on travel restrictions impacting flights from India.

The information outlined below is meant only as a guide, and students are reminded that they are responsible for ensuring that they meet the travel and quarantine requirements at the time of their arrival in Canada.

The travel restrictions announced by the Government of Canada include the banning of all passenger flights from India until September 26, 2021. After the ban expires, those eligible to travel to Canada must:

  • Obtain a negative pre-departure COVID-19 test from the Genestrings Laboratory, located above the metro station in the Airport Connect Building (ACB) at the Indira Gandhi International Airport
  • Perform this test within 18 hours before their scheduled departure
  • Present the test report with a QR code issued by this laboratory before boarding

Those who travel to Canada from India via an indirect route (i.e. with connecting flights in a third country) will need to obtain a negative COVID-19 test from their last point of departure.

These measures identified by the Federal government are in addition to the current measures already in place to help slow the spread of COVID-19, such as the mandatory 14-day quarantine requirement for those who are not fully vaccinated by a Government of Canada approved vaccine.

If you have already booked your travel to Canada, we recommend that you reach out to your airline to learn more about how your flight and travel itinerary could be impacted.

Students planning to travel are reminded that the decision to travel is a personal one, and they should plan to travel only when it is safe to do so and that travel is at their own risk. Due to the rapidly evolving public health crisis posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, travel restrictions are changing without notice, and students are reminded that they are responsible for ensuring they meet the entry requirements to Canada at the time they arrive at the Port of Entry. We recommend that students not book their travel until after they have reviewed the new travel and quarantine measures carefully, checked with their airlines, and have consulted with the ISSO at isso@carleton.ca.

As information becomes available, the ISSO will update our COVID-19 FAQsQuarantine Planning Support website, and include an item in our newsletter. We encourage students with plans to travel to continue to keep in touch with our office for additional guidance and support.
