Beyond Basic Registration: What International Students Need to Know for Academic Success

June 21, 2021 at 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM

Location:Microsoft Teams
Cost:Free

How many courses should I take and how does my academic schedule work with my time zone?  What should I know to be successful in my degree and what can I do if I am not meeting my academic goals?  How might my academic decisions affect my immigration status in Canada?

These are a few questions which may come to mind as you’re planning for September and beginning your studies at Carleton.  We invite incoming international students to join staff from the International Student Services Office, the Academic Advising Centre, and the Registrar’s Office to learn about special considerations when registering for courses and progressing between academic terms.  Whether you are studying from inside or outside Canada, international students’ academic decisions can have consequences for their immigration status and academic progression.

The first part of this workshop will cover special academic and immigration status considerations for international students residing inside and outside Canada, including:

  • The various course delivery types available for Fall 2021
  • Course load and full-time vs. part-time status
  • Course selection tools
  • The registration process
  • Setting up for academic success
  • The academic evaluation process
  • What to do if courses aren’t going as planned
  • Resources international students should use when making academic decisions

The second part of this workshop will address your questions about registration and academic requirements.  Staff from three offices will be available and happy to provide information and resources.

Join us on Microsoft Teams or register for a reminder 24 hours in advance of the event.
