Program: PhD Student in Environmental Engineering

Year of Study: 3rd year

Places I Call Home: Isfahan, Iran and Ottawa

Campus Involvement:  Research Assistant, Teaching Assistant, and Proctor for the Paul Menton Centre for Students with Disabilities.

Hobbies: Trying different restaurants! Watching Netflix, cooking tutorials, and following travel Youtubers!

My Ottawa Recommendations: Ottawa has very unique nature. If you want to be adventurous, there are multiple biking paths that you can try. My favourite one is through the Experimental Farm, which has amazing views at sunset. If you like to try different culture cuisine, Byward Market is the right place to go to find different restaurants. My go-to place is El Camino (taco bar) and Zak’s Dinner (burger and shakes).

Advice for New International Students: Transition to new culture and country might be very challenging and it’s normal to be overwhelmed. However, don’t feel you’re alone in this journey. There are many resources in Carleton University including the Global PALS program that are here to support you on your transition. So, please, stay connect and don’t forget you’re not alone!
