Forensic Lost and Found Service\n                    <\/a>\n                <\/div>\n\n                            <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>The iTeam helps Reunite Owners with their Lost iPads<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The iTeam works with&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/infocarleton\/\"><strong>Information Carleton<\/strong><\/a> (located in the Galleria linking the 4th Floor of the Unicentre) to return any iPad or iPhone whose owner cannot be readily identified, and so needs forensic analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can be reunited with your lost iPad sooner if you follow our tips below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"1-mark-your-device\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a name=\"mark\"><\/a><strong>1. Mark your device<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Put a label or tape a card to the back of the device with how to reach you. Remember to include an alternate phone no. if it&#8217;s your cellphone and an email that you check regularly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imore.com\/how-to-name-rename-iphone-ipad-apple-watch\">Name your device<\/a> in iTunes: <strong>Jane Doe&#8217;s iPod<\/strong> instead of <strong>iPod<\/strong><br><br>This allows anyone to plug the device into a computer, and even though it&#8217;s locked with a passcode, they can still see the device name.<br><br><strong>Note<\/strong>: for the protection of your privacy, always <a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/iteam\/how-to\/#passcode\">set up a passcode<\/a> on your device<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/find-my\">Set up Find My iPhone<\/a> on your iPhone or iPad.<br><br>This allows you to locate a misplaced device, cause it to ring and display a message, or worst-case perform a remote-wipe to protect your data.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"2-drop-off-any-device-you-find-at-carletons-lost-found\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a name=\"dropoff\"><\/a>2. Drop off any device you find at Carleton&#8217;s Lost &amp; Found<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Carleton&#8217;s main Lost and Found is at <a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/infocarleton\/\"><strong>Information Carleton<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;in the Galleria linking the 4th Floor of the Unicentre with the 2nd Floor of Tory, near the Starbucks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But you can also drop off found devices at Security (Robertson Hall 7\/24\/365) as well as at Athletics and Housing in the Residence Commons. After a few days, unclaimed devices are sent to <strong>Information Carleton<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"3-forensic-lost-and-found-service\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a name=\"forensiclostandfound\"><\/a>3. Forensic Lost and Found Service<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Information Carleton will search any devices for the owner&#8217;s name information, including accessing unlocked devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the owner&#8217;s name cannot be determined, or if the device is locked with a passcode, Information Carleton will forward the device to ITS or members of the iTeam for help. For example, if the device has a SIM card (e.g. phone, 3G iPad), ITS will contact the wireless provider to find out to whom the SIM card is registered. ITS will also connect the device to a computer running iTunes to read the device&#8217;s name. If it has been named &#8220;Jane Doe&#8217;s iPad&#8221;, ITS will then search for &#8220;Jane Doe&#8221; in the campus community. The iTeam also has used other techniques to reunite lost devices with their owners.
