For connecting to the Exchange mail service, IMAP is <strong>not<\/strong> recommended for these reasons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>IMAP does <strong>not<\/strong> support calendar integration. Selecting &#8220;Exchange&#8221; rather than &#8220;IMAP&#8221; in Outlook (PC\/Mac), Mail.app (Mac), or the built-in mail apps on\u00a0your iOS, Android, Windows or Blackberry smartphone, synchronizes not only your email, but <strong>also<\/strong> your calendar and address\u00a0book.<\/li>\n<li>The most common IMAP email clients are either <strong>no longer supported<\/strong> (e.g.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wiki.mozilla.org\/Eudora_OSE\">Eudora<\/a>), or have minimal support (e.g.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnet.com\/news\/mozillas-thunderbird-not-dead-but-sort-of-on-life-support\/\">Thunderbird<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>Thunderbird has difficulty filing\u00a0&#8220;sent&#8221; messages in the &#8220;Sent Items&#8221; folder\u00a0on Exchange mail servers. Sent messages by default end up being saved on the local drive of the computer running Thunderbird. There is a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/superuser.com\/questions\/897104\/emails-sent-from-thunderbird-not-showing-up-in-office365-owa\">work around<\/a>, but\u00a0many Thunderbird users are unaware there even is problem\u00a0until they lose the\u00a0only\u00a0copy of their &#8220;sent&#8221; messages when their\u00a0computer fails or is\u00a0lost.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/its\/duo\">Duo<\/a> users cannot use IMAP as Microsoft does not support 2-factor authentication over IMAP.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The above reasons not withstanding, one might\u00a0still choose to use an IMAP client of their choosing, but at least keep a bookmark to the Exchange O365 webmail site handy, as a fall-back: <a href=\"https:\/\/exchange.carleton.ca\">exchange.carleton.ca<\/a><\/p>\n\t\t<\/dd>\n\n\t<dl>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From within any\u00a0email client, add a new account of type &#8220;Exchange&#8221;, and provide your full email address, &#x6a;&#x61;&#x6e;&#x65;&#x64;&#x6f;&#x65;&#x40;&#x63;&#x75;&#x6e;&#x65;&#x74;&#x2e;&#x63;&#x61;&#x72;&#x6c;&#x65;&#x74;&#x6f;&#x6e;&#x2e;&#x63;&#x61; \u2014\u00a0that is normally all you need\u00a0to configure your device to use Exchange.\u00a0Or you can just use any web browser.
