Opening another web service from the same browser will not cause an authentication prompt.<\/li>\n<li>Outlook application on your computer or phone: when you change your MyCarletonOne password.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What Should You Do if You Accidentally Enter the Wrong Number When Prompted?<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>You will see the following message in the Microsoft Authenticator on your phone: <em>The number you entered did not match<\/em>. Select <em>Ok.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Your browser screen will display the following message: <em>We&#8217;ve sent a notification to your mobile device but didn&#8217;t receive the expected response. Please try again.\u00a0<\/em>Select <em>Use a different verification option<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>You will see a list of options. Select <em>Send notification to my mobile app<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Acknowledge the notification on your phone by entering the on-screen number and selecting <em>Yes<\/em> to continue to log in.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Frequently Asked Questions<\/h2>\n<p><strong><div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-why-is-mfa-now-required-for-carleton-university-students\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-why-is-mfa-now-required-for-carleton-university-students\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">Why is MFA now required for Carleton University students?<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-why-is-mfa-now-required-for-carleton-university-students\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>MFA adds additional protections to your account, helping to protect your email, files in your OneDrive storage, and messages and content in Microsoft Teams. After enabling MFA for all accounts, organizations and their users report a dramatic reduction in email spam, phishing, and scam messages.<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div><\/p>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-what-if-i-would-prefer-to-use-a-different-authenticator-app\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-what-if-i-would-prefer-to-use-a-different-authenticator-app\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">What if I would prefer to use a different authenticator app?<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-what-if-i-would-prefer-to-use-a-different-authenticator-app\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>The Microsoft Authenticator app is recommended and supported by ITS, but you can register and use other authenticator apps if you wish (e.g. Google Authenticator, Authy, etc.). In many cases, access to services or data can be delegated to other accounts. If you do not have internet access on your device, you can use the app to generate a 6-digit One-Time-Password that you can enter as your second factor for authentication.<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-what-if-i-am-not-comfortable-downloading-the-app\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-what-if-i-am-not-comfortable-downloading-the-app\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">What if I am not comfortable downloading the app?<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-what-if-i-am-not-comfortable-downloading-the-app\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>You can choose to use another authenticator app if you wish (e.g. Google Authenticator, Authy, etc.). Support for alternative authenticator apps is limited to a best effort, and we cannot guarantee all authenticator apps will work.<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-do-i-need-mfa-to-access-brightspace\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-do-i-need-mfa-to-access-brightspace\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">Do I need MFA to access Brightspace?<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-do-i-need-mfa-to-access-brightspace\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>MFA is not currently required for Brightspace, but it may be required at some point in the future.<br \/>\n<strong>**Note<\/strong> &#8211; If you are also an employee you will be required to MFA to access BrightSpace using your staff @cunet.carleton account, setup found <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/its\/help-centre\/ms-mfa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-when-is-the-deadline-to-set-up\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-when-is-the-deadline-to-set-up\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">When is the deadline to set-up?<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-when-is-the-deadline-to-set-up\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>You will have fourteen days as part of the Soft Enrollment phase. Once fourteen days has passed and the Soft Enrollment phase has ended, you will be required to complete the MFA setup before accessing Carleton services.<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-what-if-i-click-sign-in-instead-of-scan-qr-code-during-the-mfa-setup-process\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-what-if-i-click-sign-in-instead-of-scan-qr-code-during-the-mfa-setup-process\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">What if I click Sign-In instead of Scan QR Code during the MFA setup process?<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-what-if-i-click-sign-in-instead-of-scan-qr-code-during-the-mfa-setup-process\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>You can tap on Cancel, which will return you to the What kind of account are you adding menu (Step 4 on Phase 2 of our documentation page) where you can select Scan QR Code.<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-why-is-my-phone-automatically-deleting-the-microsoft-authenticator-app\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-why-is-my-phone-automatically-deleting-the-microsoft-authenticator-app\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">Why is my phone automatically deleting the Microsoft Authenticator app?<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-why-is-my-phone-automatically-deleting-the-microsoft-authenticator-app\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><br \/>\nAll mobile phones now include the ability to automatically delete seldom-used apps. If the Microsoft Authenticator is offloaded by your phone&#8217;s automatic offloading feature, you may encounter difficulties when trying to authenticate.
