What’s changing<\/h2>\n

Starting October 1, 2022, Microsoft began disabling Basic Authentication (BasicAuth) in all Microsoft 365 environments. Basic Authentication allows users to connect to a mailbox using only a username and a password and is not as secure as Modern Authentication (ModernAuth).<\/p>\n

This is a global change affecting all Microsoft customers. The change affects faculty, staff, and students that connect their email application to the Exchange email service using older, unsecured methods such as POP, IMAP, Exhange ActiveSync and SMTP AUTH.<\/p>\n

What do I have to do?<\/h2>\n

If you are using Microsoft Outlook on your desktop, or the Outlook mobile app on your phone or tablet,<\/span> this does not affect you.<\/p>\n

For users that are not using the Microsoft Outlook client, there are a few options depending on how you access your university Exchange email account:<\/p>\n

Use Outlook on the Web<\/h3>\n

This is the easiest way to ensure access to your email without making any change.
\nLogin to https:\/\/outlook.office.com<\/a> to securely access your email at any time.<\/p>\n

Use Microsoft Outlook<\/h3>\n

There are versions of the Outlook app on all common platforms which comply with the secure login requirements.<\/p>\n
