Confronting Antisemitism in Canada: Relevant Jurisprudence and Best Practices for Our Campuses and Our Communities<\/strong><\/p>\n

A Panel Discussion on Sunday, November 20, 2022, 10:30am \u2013 12:30pm<\/strong> at the University of Ottawa<\/p>\n

We are a group of Canadian academics concerned about the rise in antisemitism in Canada and around the world. Campuses have not been immune. In addition to an uptick in traditional forms of antisemitism there is a growing trend of organized campaigns to defame, delegitimize, and demonize Israel and Zionism. How should academics and universities respond when these behaviours move beyond the reasonable criticism of a state into antisemitism? While many groups have made important efforts to combat these campaigns there are none that support faculty from across all disciplines in addressing this worrisome trend. The Academic Engagement Network (AEN) is a US-based not for profit organization that promotes academic freedom and freedom of expression, combats antisemitism, counters delegitimization of Israel on campuses and works to promote rigorous scholarship on Israel and Jewish Identity. We are working with AEN leadership to explore the exciting possibility of bringing the Academic Engagement Network to Canada in a meeting titled, \u201cCombating Antisemitism on Canadian Campuses: A Convening to Engage, Educate, and Empower Faculty.\u201d<\/p>\n
