Participants and members from anywhere in the world are welcome.

Paper proposals in all areas of Jewish Studies are invited for our annual conference. Approaches may be grounded in ethnography, history, textual study, hermeneutics, literary analysis, arts and culture, critical theory, rabbinics, or any other scholarly discipline. Papers may not have been published or presented elsewhere.

The 2026 conference is to take place May 26-28, in person at Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada. Our host is Professor Deidre Butler, Director of the Max and Tessie Zelikovitz Centre for Jewish Studies.

Proposals are due by Monday, February 16, 2026. A proposal, about 250 words, should clearly and concisely state the main argument of the paper, and indicate the type of methodology or research model, and how it will contribute to scholarship. Include a brief bibliography. Proposals for pre-arranged panels should add a brief statement about the panel’s theme and significance. Proposals may be submitted, and papers may be presented, in English, French, Hebrew, or Yiddish.

All proposals should be sent by email, with the subject line CSJS Proposal, to CSJSconference@gmail.com. To facilitate anonymous peer review, the attachment should not include any identifying information. We intend to respond to proposals by early March.

All presenters must be CSJS members in good standing for 2026. An annual membership (beginning January 1) is CAN $36 for university faculty members, or $18 for graduate students, adjunct faculty, unaffiliated scholars, and retirees. Lifetime memberships are also available. There will be a conference registration fee of CAN $200, which includes meals (kosher). This fee will be waived for graduate students presenting papers, thanks to a generous anonymous donor. Graduate students in Canada whose proposals are accepted will be able to request financial assistance to defray travel costs.

Memberships and conference fees can be paid by mailing a cheque or money order to CSJS, c/o A.
