This fellowship places young Jews in Israeli NGOs for a year of in-depth contribution and learning.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The NIFC\/SHATIL Social Justice Fellowship is a 10-month experience where Fellows spend 32 hours per week interning in an approved, individually-selected Israeli non-governmental organization (NGO), active in one of the following areas:<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Safeguarding civil and human rights<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Pursuing environmental justice<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Promoting Jewish-Arab equality<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Advancing the status of women<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fostering tolerance and religious pluralism<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Bridging social and economic gaps<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Fellows engage in monthly enrichment programs and periodic site visits to further develop their understanding of Israel, Israeli social justice, and their role as leaders both in Israel and at home. Fellows also receive training in leadership and community development.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Because Fellows intern full-time in an Israeli NGO, successful applicants must have either excellent Hebrew language skills, or good Hebrew with excellent Arabic skills. Applicants should be college graduates by the start of the Fellowship year. Only Canadian residents are eligible for the Canadian SJF; Israeli permanent residents are not eligible to receive an NIFC\/SHATIL Social Justice Fellowship.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">About the Social Justice Fellowships<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In 1997, the Nomi Fein Social Justice Fellowship was established in the United States by Nomi\u2019s family after her sudden death at the age of 30.\u00a0 Over the years, the Fellowship has expanded, now including the Canadian Fellow, bringing the total to 8 Fellows.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Applications for the 2014-2015 Fellowship will be available in September 2013.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jotform.com\/form\/12402552137\" target=\"_blank\">Click here to apply\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/a><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>If you have trouble accessing the online form, you can <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scribd.com\/doc\/110794198\/s-Jf-20132014-Application\" target=\"_blank\">download the pdf version instead.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>COMPLETED applications, including transcripts and references, MUST be received<\/p>\n<p>by January 20, 2014.
