The Zelikovitz Centre would like to thank Dr. Frances Malino and all who came out on Sunday Sept. 22 for Dr. Malino’s lecture, \u201cJewish Voices: Muslim Lands.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr. Malino joined us to discuss her research, which explores the lives of the women who trained as teachers in France, and then returned to Morocco to teach under the auspices of Alliance Isra\u00e9lite Universelle in the 19th and 20th centuries. The recording of her full lecture will be posted soon.<\/p>\n

Dr. Malino, who was given access to an incredible trove of primary source letters, was able to provide a detailed and personal look at the lives these women led, from their training in France, to the day to day work they performed.<\/p>\n

Her research illustrates that there are parts of Jewish history and experience that often go understudied. The hard work and careful research by Dr. Malino and others working in the area of Jewish women’a history and Sephardic history enrich and expand our understanding of Jewish history.<\/p>\n

A lively discussion period followed her lecture. We\u2019d again like to thank Dr. Malino for inspiring and engaging in these discussions with us over the course of the evening.<\/p>\n
