The workshops provide children and youth with an opportunity to exercise their right to engage in important civil and political processes with the assurance that their voices will be listened to and heard by adult decision-makers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/landonpearsoncentre\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Landon Pearson Centre<\/a> works with community partners to organize the workshops for children and young people to consider aspects of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/en\/instruments-mechanisms\/instruments\/convention-rights-child\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UN Convention on the Rights of the Child<\/a> in the context of their lived experiences. Since 2007, young people have set their own agendas for the STM workshops, while adults provide infrastructure support. Lead organizers for workshops are from local host universities or community organizations. The leads set up the infrastructure for the workshops, each of which is facilitated by young people between the ages of 18-25. Facilitators receive specialized training in children\u2019s rights and rights-based approaches. The Landon Pearson Centre distributes these reports widely to our <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/landonpearsoncentre\/cran-members\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CRAN network members<\/a> who work in academic, policy, government, advocacy, legal, medical and practitioner sectors. Also, CRAN&#8217;s responses to STM workshops<a href=\"https:\/\/ojs.library.carleton.ca\/index.php\/pcran\/issue\/archive\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong> <\/strong><\/a><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ojs.library.carleton.ca\/index.php\/pcran\/issue\/archive\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">are available in the CRAN library archive<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"shaking-the-movers-early-childhood-workshops\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Shaking the Movers Early Childhood Workshops<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Landon Pearson Centre piloted three STM Early Childhood Workshops for three- to seven-year-old children in <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/landonpearsoncentre\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/65\/2019-Shaking-the-Movers-Early-Childhood-Pond-Inlet-Pirurvik-Report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pond Inlet<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/landonpearsoncentre\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/65\/STM-Early-Childhood-2019-Edmonton-MacEwan.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Edmonton<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/landonpearsoncentre\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/65\/2019-Shaking-the-Movers-Early-Childhood-Ryerson-U-Toronto.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Toronto<\/a> in 2019, with the support of the Muttart Family Foundation. The workshops were designed by Early Childhood Education experts in the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/landonpearsoncentre\/cran-members\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Child Rights Academic Network (CRAN)<\/a> and are another unique feature of our Centre: we consult with very young children using a tailored approach, value their lived experiences, and bring their views
