About the Position:
The Department of Law and Legal Studies invites applications from qualified candidates for a preliminary appointment at the rank of Instructor I beginning July 1, 2019.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach core courses in our undergraduate program, with an emphasis on teaching, developing course materials and pedagogical approaches, and coordinating multiple course sections at the 1000-level (i.e., first-year), as well as training TAs for these 1000-level courses. While the position requires the successful candidate to remain up-to-date with pedagogical theories and approaches, there are no research expectations associated with this position.
About the Academic Unit:
The Department of Law and Legal Studies (www.carlet on.ca/law) is the home of the oldest and largest undergraduate and graduate programs in Legal Studies in Canada. The Department is committed to theoretically informed, interdisciplinary legal inquiry and is composed of scholars engaged in interdisciplinary teaching and research from a range of disciplines including criminology, history, law, legal anthropology, political economy, political theory, mass communications and sociology.
The Department offers a B.A. and B.A. (Honours) in Law as well as a specialization in the Bachelor of Global and International Studies to over 1,300 students within the Faculty of Public Affairs, and includes concentrations in Human Rights and Transnational Law, Business Law, and Law, Policy and Government among its undergraduate programs. The Department also offers an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Legal Studies, as well as a Graduate Diploma in Conflict Resolution.
Qualifications:
Candidates should hold (or have completed comprehensive examinations in pursuit of) a doctoral degree, or the equivalent, in legal studies, law or a related discipline with a sustained record of effective undergraduate teaching. Preference will be given to those candidates with significant experience developing and teaching large first-year lecture courses, and experience working with and coordinating a large team of teaching assistants.
