Professor Chester Nelson Mitchell (Chet Mitchell)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The late Professor Chet Mitchell (1949 – 1991), Associate Professor of Law at Carleton University, was a colleague in the Department from July 1984 until his untimely passing in January 1991. He was a popular and enthusiastic instructor in a number of areas, most notably criminal law and medical legal issues. His areas of research interest were eclectic but he had a remarkable ability to bridge and connect ideas, theories and examples. He published over 15 refereed articles, edited special issues for two journals, and just before his death, published a book, The Drug Solution: Regul<\/span><\/a>ating Drugs According to Principles of Efficiency, Justice and Democracy<\/a>.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chet contributed to the administrative life of the Department and enriched many a conversation with lively debate. A colleague commented at the time of his death that “Chet’s warm and generous spirit, his kind and inquisitive nature and his keen and challenging intellect will be greatly missed with the department, by his students and all who knew him.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
