Students can earn a half-credit (LAWS 4906 or LAWS 4907; <em>please note you can now take two distinct placement courses in a single academic year<\/em>) or a full-credit (LAWS 4905) depending on the length of their placement. Participating students must identify a host organization and a faculty member to provide supervision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For a list of prerequisites, please refer to the <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/undergrad\/courses\/LAWS\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Course Calendar<\/a>. For more details about how to choose a placement, and how the placement works, please review the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/law\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/110\/2025\/07\/FAQ-Service-Learning-Placement-July-2025.pdf\">Service Learning Placement guide<\/a> and consult with the Undergraduate Supervisor. Students <strong>must<\/strong> consult with the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/law\/faculty-staff\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Undergraduate Supervisor<\/a> before completing the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/law\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/110\/LAWS-4905-06-07-Application-Form-Updated-September-2023.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Service Learning Placement application form<\/a>, as well as the <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Unpaid Placements &#8211; Letter to Placement Employers<\/strong> and <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Unpaid Placements &#8211; Student Declaration of Understanding and Agreement<\/strong>. Both forms can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/riskmanagement\/student-placements\/compulsory-work-placements-course-required-element\/\">Risk Management Website<\/a>. Co-op students alternate study terms at Carleton with four, eight, twelve or sixteen month work terms. Eligible Undergraduate LAW BA students can start their first co-op work term in the summer after second year<strong><em>. <\/em><\/strong>The Co-op program is managed by the Co-operative Education Program office. Students may participate during the fall term, winter term or full year (fall and winter term).
