While at Carleton, he will teach <strong>LAWS 4903A &#8211; Human Rights, Sharia Law and Islamic Legal System<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our own <a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/law\/people\/adrian-melanie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Prof. Melanie Adrian<\/a>, Chair of the Joint SAR Committee,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/newsroom.carleton.ca\/2015\/08\/19\/carleton-and-uottawa-welcome-hossein-raeesi-as-part-of-the-scholars-at-risk-network\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">notes<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"not-prose cu-quote cu-component-spacing\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cScholars at Risk make invaluable contributions to the academic community by sharing their expertise, life experiences and motivations. I am delighted to welcome Mr. Raeesi to Ottawa and look forward to the year ahead.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h4 id=\"about-our-visiting-scholar\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">About our Visiting Scholar<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Raeesi practiced law in Shiraz, Iran, for 20 years. He is the founder and former head of the Human Rights Committee of the Fars Province Bar Association. He is also the founder of Neday-e Edalat (Voice of Justice) Legal Association in Shiraz. As a <em>pro bono<\/em> attorney, Raeesi has defended political prisoners, journalists, women and children who were sentenced to the death penalty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2012, Raeesi relocated to Canada to escape undue detention and legal actions from the Iranian government.
