Under the supervision of Prof. Michael Christensen, Ashli participated in a research project to track political misinformation through&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/discoverycentre\/funding-opportunities\/icureus\/\">Carleton\u2019s I-CUREUS program<\/a>, the preliminary findings of which she presented at the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/discoverycentre\/2021\/carleton-undergraduate-students-present-at-inquiryqueens-2021\/\">Inquiry@Queen\u2019s Undergraduate Research Conference<\/a>. Through&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/discoverycentre\/funding-opportunities\/students-as-partners-program-sapp\/\">Carleton\u2019s Students as Partners Program (SaPP)<\/a>, Ashli collaborated with Prof. Eric Van Rythoven to develop pedagogy on teaching race in international relations. Ashli has also worked as a team lead for Capital Pride in 2019 and was subsequently elected as co-chair of the Capital Pride Youth Committee. Last year, she was awarded the January Marie Lapuz Emerging Youth Leader Award by SherVancouver for her leadership in the 2SLGBTQ+ community. She has also served as a member of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/equity\/governance-committees\/eic-advisory-group\/\">Carleton\u2019s Equity and Inclusive Communities Advisory Group<\/a>&nbsp;and facilitated a workshop at this year\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/seo\/soar\/\">SOAR Student Leadership Conference<\/a>&nbsp;at Carleton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"hijaab-yahya\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hijaab Yahya<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"240\" height=\"240\" src=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/law\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/110\/Hijaab-Yahya_300x300-240x240-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26402\" srcset=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/law\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/110\/Hijaab-Yahya_300x300-240x240-1.jpg 240w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/law\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/110\/Hijaab-Yahya_300x300-240x240-1-160x160.jpg 160w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/law\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/110\/Hijaab-Yahya_300x300-240x240-1-200x200.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p> Hijaab Yahya is a law student concentrating in transnational law and human rights, who has a deep interest in advocacy, research and community engagement. They are the co-president of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scholars-at-risk\/wp-content\/uploads\/Scholars-at-Risk-Annual-Report-2020.pdf\">Carleton University Students for Scholars at Risk<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ted.com\/tedx\/events\/39835\">TEDxCarletonUniversity<\/a>. Hijaab worked with the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenepal.org\/\">Women\u2019s Foundation of Nepal<\/a>&nbsp;on an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/fass\/wp-content\/uploads\/Nepal-Guidebook-Final-May-5-2020-submit.pdf\">international development project<\/a>, which advanced technological access for youth and women at the organization.&nbsp;They have provided translation services from Hindi to English for Carleton student groups and professors researching in Nepal. Hijaab&nbsp;conducted research on gender-based violence through the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/fpa\/current-students\/carleton-university-research-opportunity-curop-summer\/\">Carleton University Research Opportunity Program<\/a>&nbsp;and shared discussions on gender equality with internationally recognized human rights activist Mukhtar Mai.&nbsp;Through&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/discoverycentre\/funding-opportunities\/icureus\/\">I-CUREUS<\/a>, Hijaab has undertaken research under the supervision of Prof. Fiona Robinson in a SSHRC-funded project that explores how narratives of gender entangle within Canada\u2019s foreign policy. &nbsp;They have also presented their research at the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/fpa\/current-students\/carleton-university-research-opportunity-curop-summer\/\">Carleton FPA CUROP Showcase<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ojs.library.queensu.ca\/index.php\/inquiryatqueens\/article\/view\/14701\">Inquiry@Queen\u2019s Conference<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Congratulations Ashli and Hijaab!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Law and Legal Studies is proud to announce two undergraduate students, Hijaab Yahya and Ashli Au, have won the Provost Scholar Award.
