Compassionate Leadership

Compassionate leadership is to lead from a place of care – it is to centre the well-being of those we work with, lead and serve. While the direct impact of the pandemic differed at the community and personal level – we have experienced certain suffering collectively – fear, uncertainty, anxiety, isolation and sadness. We had to learn new ways of working, living and relating to one another.  These compounding difficult experiences have required us to be more compassionate to ourselves and to each other.

Ikram Jama, Senior Equity Advisor in the Department of Equity and Inclusive Communities would like to invite the Carleton Leader community to reflect on the joys and challenges of compassionate leadership during the pandemic and beyond. Here are some questions to guide our thinking:

  1. How does compassion inform your leadership?
  2. What facilitates compassionate leadership in our context and what hinders it?
  3. What have we learned about the role of compassion in our leadership during the pandemic?
