February 8, 2022 at 8:45 AM to 12:00 PM

Location:Virtual Workshop
Audience:Staff and Faculty

As an Administrative Assistant you can enhance your performance with management and self-leadership skills. Get better at setting your own administrative priorities, improve your ability to communicate clearly and negotiate with colleagues, and learn to innovate in your role.

The support you provide as an administrative professional is vital to your organization’s ability to achieve its goals and objectives. Today, most senior managers expect you to have leadership and management skills in order to set your own administrative priorities. In addition, you must have skills to manage all contacts, create, store and retrieve documents, plus a broad variety of other administrative skills. To do all of this successfully, you need to have strategic insight and be able to be agile in your work. At the same time, you must be tactical, process-oriented, and driven toward continuous improvement.

This 1/2 day workshop focuses on the most important attitudes, skills, and knowledge a professional administrative assistant should possess. These include demonstrating clear confident verbal, non-verbal and written communication, professional communication as well as managing both an organized office and an organized boss by always staying in control. Additionally participants will create a clear plan of how to improve their personal skills when interacting with others.

Packed with skill practice activities and exercises that are hands-on and interactive, participants practice new skills in a fun, high-energy environment.

By the end of this training course participants will be able to:

  • Explain the six basic principles of communication.
  • Improve their critical communication skills of listening, asking questions, and recognizing of nonverbal messages.
  • Become more organized and set clear goals and objectives for better planning and performance.

Registration is available through Carleton Central. Under the Employee Services tab click on Learning and Professional Development, then select Workshop Registration followed by All Workshops.  You will receive a calendar invitation to the workshop closer to the session date.
