Managers: Building Effective Working Relationships

March 11, 2020 at 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM

Location:481 MacOdrum Library
Cost:Free

Almost every organization has people whose behaviour, attitude, or work habits present challenges for working relationships. This workshop provides you with practical tools and skills to handle difficult behaviors, regardless of positional authority.

In this course, you’ll learn to distinguish between various types of difficult behaviour, and choose responses that have a high probability of successfully resolving, rather than escalating, a difficult situation. Develop analytical skills, specialized communication, confronting skills, interpersonal negotiating, coaching, plus stress and conflict management strategies.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this seminar, you will be able to:

• Identify difficult behaviours
• Explore the reasons why a person may use this difficult behaviour
• Handle your personal anger and that of others
• Understand aggressive, assertive, and passive behaviours
• Deal with negative behaviour
• Understand the importance of communication when dealing with a difficult person
• Come up with strategies to handle the difficult behaviours
• Be an active listener
