Collaborative Research: The goal of partnership is to co-create knowledge on the most pressing aspects of the functioning of the global refugee regime as identified by our Geographic Working Groups in Kenya, Tanzania, Lebanon and Jordan. This program will aim to challenge the power dynamic of knowledge production and enhance South-North and South-South research collaboration via inclusive engagement with local and national actors.

Research Placement: Sub-projects will be created to support key thematic research areas of this partnership. They will be undertaken through the collaboration (including fieldwork) of a graduate student based at a Canadian partner university and a graduate student affiliated with the Geographic Working Groups. The Geographic Working Groups will annually develop Research Placement Profiles (RPP) and qualified Canadian students will be selected by the Partnership’s Steering Committee.

Summer Institute in Canada: The Summer Institute is the primary training program in Canada, intended to prepare graduate students from Canadian partner universities to successfully undertake Research Placements. It takes place in two parts. First, Research Placement students attend the Summer Course of the Centre for Refugee Studies at York University. Second, Research Placement students participate in week-long fieldwork training at Carleton University in the last week of May.

National Institute:  National Institutes are hosted in the affected countries to respond to training and capacity-building needs identified by Geographic Working Group Members. The National Institutes are designed for graduate students, NGO representatives, local and national media representatives, and members of refugee-led organizations. The content and curriculum of the National Institute will be developed by the Geographic Working Group in collaboration with the Training Working Group.

Visiting Scholar program: Visiting Scholars will be emerging scholars affiliated with the Geographic Working Groups who will be selected to spend 6 months in Canada. Part of the program will include time at Carleton University, where they will participate in a specialized graduate course, be provided with workspace and library access, and be involved in partnership activities and complete a placement with a partner NGO headquartered in Ottawa, thereby gaining important practical experience.
