This 12-unit online training program engages with the theory and practice of cross-cultural partnered fieldwork. Units will be delivered through a series of pre-recorded lectures and supported by readings and other materials, with on-line discussions and assignments supported and moderated by a designated course facilitator. This training program will both equip emerging scholars with new research skills and foster critical reflection and dialogue among participants on these issues. This course does not qualify for a university credit.

What is the course about?

Who is eligible to take the course?
The course is designed for graduate students in any discipline (masters and PhD) with an interest in refugee and forced migration studies. Preference will be given to students who will be undertaking fieldwork in some capacity (in person or virtual) as a component of their degree.
What does the course cost?
The course is offered free of charge.
Will I receive an official university credit for completing the course?
Students who successfully complete the course will be given a certificate of completion but will not receive any official university credits.
Do I need to live in Ottawa to take the course?
No, the course is offered in an online format with both asynchronous lectures and synchronous discussion groups.
I am outside of Canada and will not be able to attend live discussions due to the time difference, can I still take the course?
Yes, students will have the ability to participate in live discussions and in the online discussion forum.
When is the deadline to apply?
Applications will be accepted from 15 November 2022, to 01 December 2022.
When will I find out if I have been accepted?
Successful applicants will be notified in December 2022.
When does the course start?
The course runs from 16 January 2023, until 07 April 2023.
How many hours a week will I need to dedicate to the course?
Students should expect to dedicate approximately 6 hours a week to course material and discussion.
