The COVID-19 situation evolved rapidly over the course of the past weeks, and it will continue to change in the near future. Following directives from the federal and provincial governments, and ensuring the safety of our student researchers, LERRN has taken the very difficult decision to suspend planning for international travel until further notice.  As a result, we regret to inform you that the Summer 2020 research placement have been cancelled.

Are you a graduate student at Carleton, McGill University, University of Ottawa or York University?

Are you interested in refugee issues?

Are you looking for a unique research placement for the Summer of 2020?

If so, Welcome the Local Engagement Refugee Research Network (LERRN)!

We are a team of researchers and practitioners committed to promoting protection and solutions with and for refugees. With the support from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), we have funding to finance collaborative research placements, undertaken by a graduate student from one of our partner Canadian universities (Carleton University, McGill University, University of Ottawa and York University) and a student selected by our Geographic Working Groups in Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon and Tanzania.

As a student researcher, you will be contributing to the larger partnership goal of co-creating knowledge on the most pressing aspects of forced migration and refugee issues as identified by our Geographic Working Groups (GWGs). Your research will be an integral part of our combined effort to understand and enhance the role of civil society in responding to the needs of refugees in the Global South. For Summer 2020, LERRN is offering placements in Kenya and Lebanon. Please visit the specific country’s page for further information and the Research Placement Profile(s) available.
