Kiya\u00a0<\/span>Gezahegne<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>is an experienced<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>feminist\u00a0<\/span>researcher\u00a0<\/span>and lecturer<\/span>\u00a0based at the<\/span> Department of Social Anthropology, Addis Ababa University<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>Ethiopia. She has been involved in\u00a0<\/span>ethnographic\u00a0<\/span>research<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>for over eight years<\/span>\u00a0on a range of migration related areas including\u00a0<\/span>experiences of\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Ethiopian migra<\/span><\/span>nts<\/span>\u00a0to<\/span><\/span>\u00a0and from the Middle East<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>migration management and livelihoods\u00a0<\/span>at the<\/span> Ethiopia-Sudan border, interlinkages between <\/span>migration<\/span> and poverty in Ethiopia, as well as\u00a0<\/span>understanding migration and the labour market in Addis Ababa among others<\/span><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Her research<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>interests include<\/span><\/span>\u00a0international migration,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>refugee studies<\/span><\/span>, gender<\/span><\/span>\u00a0policy<\/span><\/span>, religious identity, borderland conflict,<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>marginalization and slavery in the contemporary world, and adolescent wellbeing.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>She also contributes to policy processes including the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>analysis of the Ethiopian National Women\u2019s Policy<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Kiya<\/span>\u00a0is currently in the final stages of her PhD<\/span>\u00a0which<\/span>\u00a0focuse<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0on<\/span><\/span>\u00a0migration<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>across the Ethiopia-Sudan border where she is investigating religious identit<\/span><\/span>y and construction\u00a0<\/span>at<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Addis Ababa\u202fUniversity<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>as<\/span> part of the “<\/span>B<\/span><\/span>orderland<\/span><\/span> Dynamics in East Africa”<\/span><\/span>\u00a0project<\/span><\/span>\u00a0coordinated by the University of\u00a0<\/span>Bergen<\/span>. The\u00a0<\/span>five-year<\/span>\u00a0project supported by\u00a0<\/span><\/span>the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Norwegian<\/span>\u00a0Agency for Development Cooperation (NO<\/span><\/span>RAD<\/span><\/span>) aims to strengthen the research and teaching capacities of anthropology at Addis Ababa University, University of Khartoum and Makerere University, as well as develop new knowledge that can empower borderland communities in the region<\/span>. She also lecture<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0on the subject<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0She has authored\u00a0<\/span>several\u00a0<\/span>publications\u00a0<\/span>related to migration\u00a0<\/span>includ<\/span>ing the recent publication “A state incorporated business: the migration economy along the Ethiopia-Sudan border town of Metema” for the <\/span><\/span>Research Evidence Facility (REF)<\/span><\/span><\/a> coordinated by SOAS University<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and funded by the EU Emergency Trust Fund for Africa.\u00a0<\/span>Kiy<\/span>a has\u00a0<\/span>provided her services to a number of international<\/span>\u00a0agencies such as the International Labour Organisation (ILO), International Organisation for Migration (IOM), UNICEF, the Overseas Development Institute<\/span>, as well as the Organisation for Social Science in Eastern and Southern Africa (OSSREA) among others<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","meta":{"_relevanssi_hide_post":"","_relevanssi_hide_content":"","_relevanssi_pin_for_all":"","_relevanssi_pin_keywords":"","_relevanssi_unpin_keywords":"","_relevanssi_related_keywords":"","_relevanssi_related_include_ids":"","_relevanssi_related_exclude_ids":"","_relevanssi_related_no_append":"","_relevanssi_related_not_related":"","_relevanssi_related_posts":"","_relevanssi_noindex_reason":"","_mi_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"people-type":[224,225,178],"yoast_head":"\nKiya\u00a0Gezahegne -
