                                          <\/div>\n    \n<h3 id=\"overview\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Overview<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We invite contributions to a Special Issue exploring \u201cWho is a Refugee in the 21st Century?\u201d, focusing on the lived, empirical bottom-up experiences of individuals and groups who have been (internally or internationally) displaced from their recent or original place of residence due to factors such as armed conflicts, persecutions, and natural disasters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"topics-of-interest\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Topics of Interest<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Authors are encouraged to explore themes such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Political, social, and cultural influences on displacement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Self-ascriptions, and situational changes over time<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The impact of (inter)national definitions of \u201crefugee\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On-the-ground experiences including feelings of shame and honor, financial (in)dependence, temporal aspects of displacement, legal possibilities of return, relations to other migrants, and trust in the receiving societies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"submission-guidelines\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Submission Guidelines<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We welcome abstract submissions from around the world, particularly from scholars and practitioners based outside Europe and North America.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Abstract length: 400\u2013500 words.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Deadline: March 31,
