Picture of LinR lecturer Adriane Aboud as MedusaAdriane Aboud is an art history teacher at Heritage College. She received a Bachelor’s degree in History and Art History from McGill University in Montreal, and a Master’s degree in Art History from the University of Nottingham in England. She lived in Europe for two years during which time she traveled extensively. Upon her return to Canada she briefly took a job at the National Gallery of Canada before accepting her current post as a CEGEP teacher in Gatineau. Adriane has taught many lecture series with us, including Famous Artists of the Italian Renaissance, Serenissima Repubblica: The Art and History of Renaissance Venice, French Art of the 18th and 19th Centuries, and Art of the Modern World.

Read what participants have said they enjoyed most about Adriane’s lecture series, “Art of the Modern World”:

  • Adriane Aboud is so well-organized, thoughtful and engaging. Provides just the right amount of time for class discussion, manages her time very well and keeps us all stimulated.
  • I love how Adriane sets up her classes. She is super knowledgeable and I think she is very passionate about her subject. I enjoy her classes (I have had her before) very much and hope to take other classes with her again.
  • I have attended many lectures in the Lifelong Learning Program over a number of years. This was the best so far. The material was interesting, provocative, and really got the grey cells working. Despite a long association with art history, I have never really appreciated contemporary art. Now I have a basis for an understanding of the subject. Thank you for this gift.
  • This was the third series taught by Adriane Aboud that I have taken. Her classes are always a joy. She is extremely knowledgeable and presents the subject matter with enthusiasm and competence. Questions are encouraged but never allowed to disrupt her class plan. Handouts are relevant and contain suggestions for further study. I have been so impressed with Adriane Aboud’s teaching that I hope to be able to register for more courses taught by her in future sessions.
  • This was an excellent overview of modern art starting where her art course on French Art left off, i.e. after the Impressionists. It was thoughtfully and logically presented to take us through some of the main artistic movements that followed. I loved her explanations to us of how to approach and understand different types of modern art and I feel I will better enjoy and appreciate these works when I see them in galleries. I am inspired to read some of the books and watch some documentaries she recommended. Adriane is a superb, knowledgeable and interesting lecturer!
