Please note that due to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, Carleton University is recommending that non-essential offices close, in order to minimize risk to students, faculty and staff. This means that the Learning in Retirement office will be closed, but our staff is still available to contact online. We recommend contacting us by email at

We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as we deal with this unprecedented situation.

Learning in Retirement’s Early and Late Spring 2020 Sessions are cancelled.

We will be providing refunds to all Early and Late Spring 2020 Session registrants. Please monitor your email for information about when refunds will be issued. We are required to issue refunds in the format of the original payment (online credit card payment, credit card payment by phone, cheque) and will ensure each person is refunded appropriately. We appreciate your patience and understanding as it may take a few weeks for refunds to be processed.

Please join our mailing list if you are not already on it, so that we can keep you informed about our program’s next steps.

The Learning in Retirement program typically offers five sessions of six-week series every year. Two sessions are offered in the fall (September – December), one in the winter (January – February), and two in the spring (March – June).

Each session offers a number of unique lecture series, writing workshops, and language workshops taught by experts in their field. Topics offered include art history, music, science, politics, history, religion, social studies, philosophy, memoir writing, and more.

Single Lecture Presentations (two hours each) complement our regular sessions.
