Feeling comfortable managing your online language class using a video conferencing platform
May 21, 2020 at 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM
Location: | Online in Big Blue Button room on cuLearn (participants will be added to Development - Language Teaching course) |
Cost: | Free |
Moving your class online isn’t as simple as just scheduling one solid 2-hour session in the same online room at the same online time. If this is your plan, the class will seem VERY LONG to both you and the students. However, a good understanding of how to use a video conferencing platform like Big Blue Button or Zoom will help you organize your sessions and make the most of your “face-to-face” time.
Overview:
- meet in Big Blue Button
- discuss how to troubleshoot audio/video problems
- take a tour of the parts of the platform
- look at how to add a BBB room to your class
- learn how to create and use breakout rooms (we’ll try it out)
- learn how to record sessions
- repeat for Zoom
- small group discussion: What’s the best way to use “in person” time during a language class?
