Riding on the bus, working out at the gym, waiting for your friend who is ALWAYS late\u2026this is the perfect time to work on your Spanish using one of the many free podcasts you can subscribe to on your phone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now I\u2019m not talking about one of those \u201cLearn Spanish with Us\u201d<\/em> kinds of podcasts\u2026you know, the ones where they teach specific topics or functions.  No, what I\u2019m talking about listening to authentic audio made specifically for Spanish-speakers.  News broadcasts, for example, or travel stories, or entertainment\/sports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I know I know.  You\u2019re thinking: \u201cSeriously\u2026I just started studying Spanish like 5 minutes ago.  I can\u2019t understand any of that.\u201d<\/em>  And sure, you\u2019re probably right.  Maybe you\u2019ll only get 10-20% when you first start out:  \u201cblah blah blah Justin Bieber\u2026blah blah blah los clippers de Los Angeles\u2026\u201d.  <\/em>But the more you listen, the better you\u2019ll become.  And if you choose something like the news, then you\u2019ll start to hear the same things repeated over and over again.  \u201cblah blah blah las noticias de la casa blanca\u2026blah blah blah.\u201d<\/em>  And because the topics they discuss are things you\u2019re probably already familiar with from the news in English, you\u2019ll have a better chance of knowing what\u2019s going on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also great about newscasts, is that you\u2019ll hear people from many different Hispanic regions speaking either as announcers or interviewees: Venezuela, Colombia, Mexico\u2026even Spain.  And these different speakers will give you a broad selection of accents to listen to\u2026with different pacing\u2026and different genders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyway, there are many podcasts out there.  My suggestion would be to find a topic you\u2019re interested in and subscribe to that.  Here are a few titles to get you started:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
