For more details on the program please visit the pages <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/undergrad\/undergradprograms\/mathematicsandstatistics\/\">Undergraduate Calendar \u2013 Programs<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/admissions.carleton.ca\/programs\/mathematics\/\" target=\"_blank\">Undergraduate Admissions &#8211; Program Information<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-computational-and-applied-mathematics-and-statistics-honours\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-computational-and-applied-mathematics-and-statistics-honours\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">Computational and Applied Mathematics and Statistics (Honours)<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-computational-and-applied-mathematics-and-statistics-honours\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>This program is intended to develop technical and practical skills of students \u2013 in mathematics and statistics, augmented with a solid core of computer science.<\/p>\n<p>In this program, students are exposed to most of the honours mathematics\/statistics core of the first two years, together with a core of computer science.\u00a0 Then the third and fourth years allow the student to select courses which focus either on modern applied mathematics, or on applied statistics.<br \/>\n<\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-computer-mathematics-general\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-computer-mathematics-general\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">Computer Mathematics (General) <\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-computer-mathematics-general\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><br \/>\nComputer Mathematics provides you with a background in computer-related mathematical ideas, plus a strong foundation in computer science. If you want to pursue a career in government, industry, management, or systems analysis, this may be the program for you.<br \/>\n<\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-mathematics-general-or-honours\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-mathematics-general-or-honours\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">Mathematics (General or Honours) <\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-mathematics-general-or-honours\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>These programs provide general training in Mathematics and Statistics. The General programs are less theoretical than the Honours programs which may form an excellent introduction to graduate studies. The main areas of concentration are: algebra, analysis, topology, applied mathematics (classical and modern), statistics and probability. In the Honours program, you may choose to pursue a Specialization in Stochastics.<br \/>\n<\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-statistics-general-or-honours\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-statistics-general-or-honours\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">Statistics (General or Honours)<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-statistics-general-or-honours\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>The General program in Statistics provides you with the background you will need to work as a methodologist in a variety of statistics-related fields. The Honours program prepares you for a career as a professional statistician, other related careers or for further advanced studies. Graduates from this program (with a minor from another field) will automatically have satisfied the educational requirements for the Associate Statistician (A.Stat.) professional designation of the Statistical Society of Canada (for more information see\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ssc.ca\/\"><strong>www.ssc.ca<\/strong><\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ssc.ca\/en\/accreditation\/apply\/suggested-courses-use-towards-astat-designation\"><strong>http:\/\/www.ssc.ca\/en\/accreditation\/apply\/suggested-courses-use-towards-astat-designation<\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-concentration-in-actuarial-science\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-concentration-in-actuarial-science\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">Concentration in Actuarial Science<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-concentration-in-actuarial-science\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>A concentration in actuarial science\u00a0is offered as part of\u00a0the Statistics Honours program. In addition to the core mathematics and statistics topics, this concentration incorporates a targeted sequence of courses in Business and Economics that provides students with the necessary background to satisfy the six undergraduate requirements set out by the Society of Actuaries for professional designation. Graduates from this concentration who achieve the grade level requirement will have satisfied all the requirements of the Validation of Educational Experience for the designation of Associate of the Society of Actuaries.<br \/>\n<\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-computer-science-and-mathematics\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-computer-science-and-mathematics\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">Computer Science and Mathematics<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-computer-science-and-mathematics\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><br \/>\nIf you are also interested in Computer Science, consider our BMath Combined Honours program in Computer Science and Mathematics. This limited enrolment program, similar to the Bachelor of Computer Science program, places equal emphasis on Mathematics and Computer Science.
