This includes cross-appointed and adjunct professors)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-teams=\"true\">One arm\u2019s length faculty member who is from outside the student\u2019s home department or program<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-teams=\"true\">Chair for the defence (from inside or outside home department)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-teams=\"true\">Dean of the Faculty (ex officio \u2013 non-voting).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-teams=\"true\">Chair of the Department <i>or\u00a0<\/i>delegate that acts as Chair for the defence<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-teams=\"true\">Vice-Provost (Graduate Studies) (ex officio \u2013 non-voting).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>PhD thesis committee comprises of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Thesis supervisor and co-supervisor<\/li>\n<li>Internal Examiner (One member (full-time faculty or adjunct) from outside the student\u2019s home department and who has been at arm\u2019s length from the thesis research)**<\/li>\n<li>External Examiner (one member from outside Carleton University and uOttawa who is a recognized authority in the subject of the thesis)<\/li>\n<li>At least two thesis advisory committee members***<\/li>\n<li>Member of Joint Institute (uOttawa)<\/li>\n<li>Chair for the defence (for PhD defence the chair must be outside home department)<\/li>\n<li>Chair of the Department (ex officio \u2013 non-voting)<\/li>\n<li>Dean of the Faculty (ex officio \u2013 non-voting).<\/li>\n<li>Vice-Provost (Graduate Studies) (ex officio \u2013 non-voting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What happens if I did not achieve a B- in my course?<\/strong><br \/>\nA grade of B- or better must normally be obtained in each course credited towards the master&#8217;s degree. A candidate may, with the support of the Graduate Director and the approval of the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs, be allowed a grade of C+ in .5 credit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do I need to apply to graduate?<\/strong><br \/>\nYes, otherwise you will not graduate.\u00a0 Application to graduate is in Carleton Central.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do I automatically get a mailbox in the School mailroom?<\/strong><br \/>\nOnly graduate students holding a Teaching Assistantship will be assigned a mailbox.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How do I apply for travel funding?<\/strong><br \/>\nIf you are a full-time student whose paper or poster has been accepted to a conference, please read and follow the instructions and application forms\u00a0<a title=\"Travel Application\" href=\"http:\/\/gradstudents.carleton.ca\/awards-and-funding\/internal-awards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.
