\n<\/strong>Project in Mathematics and Statistics<\/strong><\/p>\n

Project in mathematics and statistics supervised by a professor approved by the graduate director resulting in a major report (approximately 30-40 pages), together with a short presentation on the report. Graded by the supervisor and another professor.. The project will normally be completed in one term.<\/p>\n

Precludes additional credit for MATH 5909.<\/p>\n

Q:\u00a0 How do I register into the Research Project?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

First, fill out a Research Project Agreement form – Research Project Agreement Form<\/a>
\nOnce your supervisor signs it, send the form to ms-gradadmin@math.carleton.ca and fill out a course override request in Carleton Central.<\/p>\n

Q: I need to do my Project, how do I get started? <\/strong>
\nMeet with your Graduate Supervisor to discuss when you should register for the project.<\/p>\n

  1. Refer to your Statement of Standing on Admission to confirm that you selected the project option as part of your M.Sc. program. Contact the Project Coordinator if you have questions.<\/li>\n
  2. Register through Carleton Central in MATH 5910. You will be required to complete an override request (locate button at bottom of screen).<\/li>\n
  3. Note: 2022-23 Graduate Calendar – 8.2 Continuous Registration in Thesis, Research Essay, or Independent Research Project<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Any student (full-time or part-time), after initial registration in a thesis, research essay or independent research project, must maintain this registration in all successive terms (including the term in which the student is examined) until his\/her thesis, research essay or independent research project is completed. Completion means submission of a final grade to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs after modifications\/revisions. Students should note that approval to register in the thesis, etc, is given on the understanding that the student will be in regular contact with his\/her supervisor, and that thesis research will be actively pursued in each term of registration.<\/p>\n

    The Presentation<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

    Q: How long should it be?<\/strong>
    \nThe presentation is to be no longer than 20 minutes, followed by 5-10 minutes for questions.<\/p>\n

    Q: What sort of presentation medium should I use?<\/strong>
    \nThis is up to you and your supervisor. Possibilities include laptop and projector (e.g. PowerPoint, PDF), transparencies with overhead projector, and chalk board. Use whatever you feel most comfortable and believe will serve best to convey your topic.<\/p>\n

    Q: When is the deadline for the final version of the project?<\/strong><\/p>\n

    The same deadline for the final version of the thesis for a thesis student. (refer to the Grad calendar dates).<\/p>\n
