Physics III, grades 10-12.
\n<\/span><\/h4>\n

This course will introduce the students to the frontiers of modern physics. We will be discussing quantum mechanics, elementary particles, and dark matter. Carleton University has a strong research group in Particle Physics, and we tapped into their expertise when designing this course. Carleton’s physicists contributed to building detectors at the Large Hadron Collider<\/a> at CERN (Geneva) and participated in experiments leading to the discovery of the Higgs boson. Carleton’s team also played an important role at the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory<\/a>. The discovery of neutrino oscillation at the Sudbury experiment has led to the Nobel Prize in Physics awarded to the team leader Prof. Art McDonald.<\/p>\n

Physics III course will be taught by an Instructor from the Carleton Particle Physics group, who will bring insights from the current research work straight to our classroom!<\/p>\n

2025\/26 Course Information<\/strong><\/p>\n

The course will run in-person <\/b> on Thursdays<\/strong> 5:30pm-7:00pm <\/b> from September 25th<\/strong>, 2025 to April 2026\u00a0 (with a break in December).

Physics II is a pre-requisite for this course, only students who successfully completed Physics II will be invited to register in this course.<\/p>\n
