{"id":6962,"date":"2014-01-13T16:21:28","date_gmt":"2014-01-13T21:21:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/math\/?page_id=6962"},"modified":"2026-03-18T22:09:03","modified_gmt":"2026-03-19T02:09:03","slug":"fundamentals-geometry-ii-course","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/math\/math-enrichment-centre\/fundamentals-geometry-ii-course\/","title":{"rendered":"Fundamentals of Geometry II"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Fundamentals of Geometry &#8211; Part II<\/h4>\n<p>Grade 8-9 Students (September to May)<br \/>\nThe School of Mathematics and Statistics at Carleton University offers a non-credit enrichment course for students in grade 8-9.<\/p>\n<p>In this sequel course more advanced topics in Geometry will be studied, including an introduction to trigonometry and 3-dimensional geometry.\u00a0 Completion of Fundamentals of Geometry I is a prerequisite.<\/p>\n<p>We propose to cover the following topics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Introduction to Trigonometry<\/li>\n<li>Triangle \u2013 Metric relations<\/li>\n<li>Circle (Advanced properties)<\/li>\n<li>3 D Geometry \u2013 Points, Lines and Planes in Space<\/li>\n<li>Solid figures:<br \/>\n(i) Polyhedra (prism, pyramid, truncated pyramid) and<br \/>\n(ii)\u00a0Non-polyhedra (cylinder, cone, truncated cone, sphere)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These topics will be covered in-depth and are not related to Ontario Elementary or Secondary School Curriculum.<\/p>\n<p>Fundamentals of Geometry II is a required course for Competitive Math II.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h4>2025\/26 Course Information<\/h4>\n<p>This course will be offered in-person on Thursdays 7:30-9:00pm from <strong>September 25<\/strong>, 2025 to May 2026, with a break in December in the School of Mathematics and Statistics, MacPhail Seminar Room, Room 4351 Herzberg Laboratories Building. Only students who did well in &#8220;Fundamentals of Geometry I&#8221; will be invited to register in this course. These students will receive personalized registration codes, which are non-transferable.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h4>2026\/27 Course Information<\/h4>\n<p>This course will be offered in-person on Thursdays 7:30-9:00pm from <strong>September 24<\/strong>, 2026 to May 2027, with a break in December in the School of Mathematics and Statistics, MacPhail Seminar Room, Room 4351 Herzberg Laboratories Building. Only students who did well in &#8220;Fundamentals of Geometry I&#8221; will be invited to register in this course.
