MathLink will give an opportunity for the high school students to explore mathematics beyond the school program. \u00a0The target age group is grades 9 and 10, but anyone with interest in mathematics is invited to participate. \u00a0We will explore various topics in mathematics including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sequences<\/li>\n<li>Combinatorics<\/li>\n<li>Probability<\/li>\n<li>Geometry<\/li>\n<li>Algebra<\/li>\n<li>Logic<\/li>\n<li>Mathematical games<\/li>\n<li>Calculus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each session will begin with a lecture, followed by a problem-solving session. The problems we consider will be on the topic of the lecture. Once in a while, there will be special lectures given by professors at Carleton&#8217;s School of Mathematics and Statistics. We will also be working on olympiad-style problems (at appropriate level). MathLink is designed in a way that students may take it for two years in a row. The curriculum will not repeat. In alternate years we put emphasis on either Algebra or Geometry.<\/p>\n<h4>Why should you participate?<\/h4>\n<p>This program is oriented towards the students who already do well in high school math. Its goal is to ensure that these students succeed and excel in mathematics courses at the University level. If you plan to enter a University to study mathematics, science or engineering, MathLink will be beneficial for you. And finally, <strong>we do math because we like it<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>2025\/26 Course Information<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>MathLink will run on <strong>Wednesdays 6:00-7:30pm<\/strong> from <strong>September 24,<\/strong> 2025 to April 2026 (with a break in December).<\/p>\n<p>Enrollment is based on the <strong>Admission Test<\/strong>. Admission Test will be held on <strong>Wednesday September 17<\/strong>, 6:00-7:00pm, in Minto Centre, room MC 2000.<\/p>\n<p>To ensure level-playing field, we ask the students not to prepare for the Admission Test. For this reason, we do not provide any information about this test.<\/p>\n<p>Continuing students from 2024\/25 received the registration codes and do not need to take the Admission Test.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Instructor: <strong>Professor Yuly Billig<\/strong> <a href=\"&#x6d;&#x61;&#x69;&#x6c;&#x74;&#111;&#58;&#98;&#105;lli&#x67;&#x40;&#x6d;&#x61;&#x74;&#x68;&#46;&#99;&#97;rle&#x74;&#x6f;&#x6e;&#x2e;&#x63;&#x61;\">&#98;i&#x6c;l&#x69;&#103;&#x40;&#109;&#x61;&#116;h&#x2e;c&#x61;&#114;&#x6c;&#101;&#x74;&#111;&#x6e;&#46;c&#x61;<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Classroom for Winter Term:\u00a0 \u00a0AT 102<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Class size is limited to 60 students.<\/p>\n<p>This program is <strong>free<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Registration for the 2025\u20132026 academic year is now closed.
