{"id":9030,"date":"2014-07-22T14:02:38","date_gmt":"2014-07-22T18:02:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/math\/?page_id=9030"},"modified":"2015-02-11T11:05:46","modified_gmt":"2015-02-11T16:05:46","slug":"analytics","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/math\/cqads\/workshops\/analytics\/","title":{"rendered":"Analytics, Before and After"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Analytics, Before and After: Gathering, Preparing, and Visualizing Data (formerly Challenges of Pre- and Post-Analytics)<\/h2>\n<table border=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>Date:<\/td>\n<td>Thursday,\u00a0October 16, 2014<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Time:<\/td>\n<td>9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Place:<\/td>\n<td>Macphail Seminar Room, Room 4351 Herzberg Laboratories<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h4>Workshop I Description:<\/h4>\n<p>An introduction to the <b>notions that must be mastered prior to, and after, embarking on data analysis<\/b>, illustrated through relevant and newsworthy examples, along with a discussion of common challenges and pitfalls.<\/p>\n<p>By the end of the course, participants will be able:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>to <b>appreciate the impact of various data collection and preparation strategies;<\/b><\/li>\n<li>to <b>visualize, interpret and present analytical results and complex data<\/b>, and<\/li>\n<li>to <b>identify intrinsic limitations of data as well as some easily avoidable pre- and post-analysis mistakes.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This workshop was previously offered under the title Challenges of Pre- and Post-Analytics.<\/p>\n<h4>Intended Audience:<\/h4>\n<p>Managers, policy makers, and consultants with an interest in quantitative methods who wish to grasp the larger and broader behind-the-scenes issues that affect analysts\u201a decisions and results (this version of the course contains very little technical details and is <b>not intended for experienced data analysts<\/b>).<\/p>\n<h4>Pre-requisites:<\/h4>\n<p>This is not a workshop on formulas, computation or any specific analytical methods.
