{"id":660,"date":"2023-10-14T19:10:58","date_gmt":"2023-10-14T23:10:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/mathlab\/?page_id=660"},"modified":"2023-10-14T19:18:46","modified_gmt":"2023-10-14T23:18:46","slug":"symbol-decision-app","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/mathlab\/experiment-apps\/symbol-decision-app\/","title":{"rendered":"Symbol Decision App"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the\u00a0<strong>Symbol Decision app<\/strong>, participants judge whether combinations of mathematical symbols are\u00a0\u201creadable\u201d, that is done they follow the conventions of mathematical text.\u00a0\u00a0The task begins with 3 word-based practice trials to ensure the participant understands what is meant by\u00a0\u201creadable\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0There are two versions of the task; the standard version\u00a0(Headley, 2016) and the\u00a0children version which\u00a0is designed for children in grades 2 through 4. In each version, the participant first observes a focal point (*) at the center of the screen (500ms) followed by the mathematical symbol stimulus (1500ms adult version; 3000ms child version).\u00a0\u00a0Participants are instructed to quickly press the green check mark if the stimulus is \u201creadable\u201d or press the red X if the stimulus is \u201cnon-readable\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Experimental stimuli can be configured. Please <a href=\"https:\/\/gitlab.com\/RichardDing\/SDT-Trials\/-\/archive\/master\/SDT-Trials-master.zip\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">download<\/a> this sample trial list folder and follow the README file to configure the stimuli.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Headley, M.
