Launching Refuge(e): A Themes Issue

February 16, 2017 at 1:30 AM to 3:00 AM

Location: Gordon Wood Lounge, 18th Floor Dunton Tower

In/Words Magazine & Press will present its first themed issue, Refuge(e), at Carleton University’s English Department, exploring the internal and external geographies of the refugee and refuge experiences. The event will include readings by local and emerging literary writers such as Natalie Hanna, Kirsten Bussière and Sarah Kamamba. Wine and Cheese Reception to follow.

A stimulating panel discussion on the production of the issue will follow with Collett Tracey, Founder of In/Words, and Sanita Fejzic, Senior Editor, Special Projects. We will consider what function small presses have in mediating anxieties and traumas related to shifting political, cultural and artistic discourses on migration, citizenship and refugees. Guest editor, Lise Rochefort, will read and engage in a Q & A.

Please RSVP to this email, refugee.inwords(at)gmail.com by Monday, February 13.

Refuge(e) includes visual art, video and creative non-fiction pieces by refugee camp volunteers, former refugees, poets, journalists and essayists who were moved to explore the themes. What is refuge? What does it mean to be a refugee?

The Refug(e)e issue will also be available for purchase. $15/issue.
