Prolonged Precarious Status in Canada: Generating Policy Directions for the New Federal Government<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The day consists of two working sessions that will gather together a multidisciplinary group of experts in immigration, refugee, and citizenship policy. The morning session will assess the current versions of programs for temporary migrant workers. The afternoon session will focus on the marginalization and abuse of specific vulnerable groups that exist outside of the formalized temporary labour migration streams, including but not limited to refugee claimants, migrant sex workers, visa overstayers, sponsored dependents, and stateless persons. We invite you to participate in this public discussion to help refine and add to the recommendations. Please see the attached poster for the full list of speakers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop will be capped off with a reception from 5.30 to 7pm<\/strong> at The<\/strong> University of Ottawa, Human Rights Research and Education Centre (57 Louis Pasteur, 5th<\/sup> Floor) <\/strong>that will showcase preliminary recommendations from the research and discussion of 15 academics and lawyers to be presented to the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship on reforms that can be made to the Canadian immigration system related to precarious status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
