The Carleton Centre for the Study of Islam is pleased to announce that the second<\/strong> international Ismaili Studies conference<\/strong> will take place on March 9 and 10, 2017<\/strong> at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada<\/strong>. It will build on the remarkable success of the Ismaili Studies Conference: State of the Field held at the University of Chicago in 2014. These multidisciplinary gatherings are a progressive endeavour to provide opportunities for the presentation of research as well as for academic discussion and debate on the scholarly endeavour termed broadly as Ismaili Studies. They provide a pluralist locus for scholarship on the various entities and communities that are related to, have emerged from or are associated in other ways with Ismaili expressions of Islam in the past and the present. 63 speakers<\/strong> from 12 countries<\/strong> are slated to make presentations at the current conference (ISC 2017) in parallel sessions which will be organized in the streams of 1) Historical Presences<\/strong>, 2) Communities, Identities, Boundaries<\/strong>, and 3) Rethinking Heritage<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ISC 2017 features panel discussions, a roundtable discussion, a music workshop and a keynote lecture by Professor Homi K. Bhabha<\/strong>, Director of Harvard University\u2019s Humanities Center and former Aga Khan Award for Architecture Jury and Steering Committee member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two-day event includes two lunches (on 9th<\/sup> and 10th<\/sup> March) and one dinner (on 9th<\/sup> March)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
