Please join us in welcoming Mariana Martins Almeida<\/b><\/a>, Liliane Pereira Braga<\/b><\/a> and Tilmann Scherf<\/a>,<\/b> three visiting researchers to our Migration & Diaspora Studies<\/a> community who look forward to collaborating with faculty, student and practitioner communities to bring research and expertise about the movement of people to audiences at Carleton and beyond.  <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mariana Martins Almeida<\/b><\/a> (Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina<\/a>, Brazil) has been awarded a prestigious Emerging Leaders in the Americas<\/a> award to study at Carleton. She will be conducting research on international organizations, migration politics and the African diaspora in Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Liliane Pereira Braga<\/b><\/a> <\/b>also comes to Carleton with a scholarship award from the  Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program<\/a>. <\/b><\/i>In her role at the Municipal Secretary of Education of S\u00e3o Paulo, Liliane is responsible for developing training programs for teachers in the public education system. She is also a member of CECAFRO <\/a>at the Pontifical Catholic University of S\u00e3o Paulo<\/a>, the only research center in Brazil devoted to the study of African and African Diasporic Cultural Studies, and her research focuses on the circulation of images, narratives and intercultural knowledge in Brazil, Jamaica, Cuba and Haiti. At Carleton, Liliane will be researching anti-racist curatorial practices that encourage collaborations between artists, activists and scholars in Diaspora Studies, Decolonial Studies and Indigenous Studies. Tilmann Scherf<\/b><\/a> (Free University Berlin<\/a>, Germany) is a member of a renowned research group in Germany on “Governance in Areas of Limited Statehood”.  He researches border and migration management in C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire and West Africa, with emphasis on international organizations and private security companies. He may be contacted at tilmann.scherf(at)fu-berlin.de and has also prepared a short welcome message that is available here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
