CARLETON UNIVERSITY (OTTAWA) IN COOPERATION WITH THE RUSSIA-CANADA BUSINESS COUNCIL IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE:<\/h4>\n

A WRITING CONTEST<\/em>
\nFOR ALL STUDENTS STUDYING RUSSIAN IN CANADA<\/em><\/h3>\n

Purpose<\/strong><\/p>\n

The purpose of the contest is to generate interest among students in appreciation of the relationship between our countries; to celebrate Russian-Canadian heritage and the diversity of cultures and languages in Canada; and to provide an opportunity for students to showcase their knowledge of the Russian language, literature and history.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Contest Rules and Regulations<\/strong><\/p>\n

All students from Canadian schools and universities, language schools and Russian learning centers, who are studying the Russian language, are invited to participate in this contest. To enter the contest, students are required to write an essay of 1,000 to 2,000 words in Russian on one of the proposed topics within the selected categories and to submit it to our contest judges via e-mail to: cu.russianwritingcontest@gmail.com<\/a> by: 20 February 2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our esteemed judges \u2013 leading experts in the field of the Russian language, literature and history from Russia and Canada \u2013 will review the essays and then choose six winners (three in each category). The winners will be announced on 28 March 2019. All winners will be notified in writing via e-mail and may also be contacted by phone. The list of winners will also be available at https:\/\/carleton.ca\/eurus\/. The award ceremony date will be announced at a later date.<\/p>\n

Categories and Topics\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

The first category is \u201cThe Russian Language as a Window into Russian Culture\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This category is open to all students from Canadian schools and universities, language schools and Russian learning centers, who are studying the Russian language and who are not native Russian speakers. There is no limit on the age of contestants or the duration of time learning Russian.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The contest topics for this category are:<\/strong><\/p>\n

1.<\/strong> The Greatest Russian(s) of all time. OR<\/p>\n

2.<\/strong> Two northern countries: what Russia and Canada have in common.<\/p>\n

The second category is \u201cThe Russian Language as a Native Language\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This category is open to all students from Canadian schools and universities, language schools and Russian learning centers, whose mother tongue is Russian. There is no limit on the age of contestants or the duration of time learning Russian.<\/p>\n

The contest topics for this category are:<\/strong><\/p>\n

1.<\/strong> My favourite Soviet animated film. OR<\/p>\n

2.<\/strong> A history of the championship of Russian cities for the status of capital.<\/p>\n
