The central theme of this year\u2019s conference was: <strong>Latin America and the Caribbean: Mirrors and Mirages.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The theme Mirrors and Mirages invites us to reflect on the pluriversality of past and current conditions in Latin America and the Caribbean. Multiple images of integration, industrialization, inclusion, migration and development have invigorated the imaginations of the region\u2019s peoples and diasporas. The conference sought to explore this richness and diversity. It also encouraged participants to critically consider how the history of Latin America and the Caribbean can be situated within a flux of changing visions for the region. These processes can be represented by the imagery of mirrors and mirages: ideas and reflections, pursued and perhaps abandoned as changing dreams take hold of the imagination of the people and lead them in new directions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event included keynote presentations by <strong>Marisol de la Cadena <\/strong>(UC Davis) and <strong>Alissa Trotz <\/strong> (University of Toronto) as well as an Opening Night Ceremony with presentations from various ambassadors from Latin America and the Caribbean.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The VI Annual Latin America and the Caribbean Conference took place between April 16 &amp; 18, 2015 at Carleton University.
